REDWOOD CITY
Vroom Haus

These clients were looking for a complete makeover of  the existing home on this intriguing site. We conducted a detailed survey of the original structure and did our best to save the street-front gabled, building. (The framing had so much dry-rot we needed to replace it, but we did manage to keep the existing foundation.)

We used the simple gable form as our design motif, replicated it at the rear with a second floor, then stretched a ridge between the new and existing  addition that follows the slope of the property. Our origami-shaped roof creates a connector between the existing pool deck and the lower living spaces, unfolding this home up the sloping site, following the elongated staircase within.

A playful color palette and dynamic herringbone siding pattern add all the drama this home needs, allowing us to keep the rest of the detailing elegantly simple.
