This site and location called for something special. We spent time digging into the rich legacy of Monterey modernism and its connection to the landscape and materials of this region. Our design is inspired by the vertical pines and horizontal oak trees located on this site. The house, garage and studio are carefully nestled in between them to cause as little disruption as possible. We used our dramatic roofline to draw the eye upwards into the tree-line, while referencing angular 50's modernist designs from this region.

Extensive research into materials selections and upfront carbon emissions was conducted on this home. This allowed us to revise some of our product choices, including reducing the extent of the metal siding originally specified. We were surprised to find that the solar PV array carried the highest upfront carbon footprint of all products installed on this home, making our client's choice to seek Passive House certification ever more relevant.
